What to tell the dispatcher
A few facts help the crew arrive prepared. You do not need all of them, and the dispatcher will ask for anything missing.
- Your address and the nearest cross street, so the crew can find you quickly.
- Where the water came from and whether it has been shut off.
- Which rooms and floors are wet, and roughly how wide the wet area is.
- Whether the water looks clean, grayish or contaminated, and whether any sewage is involved.
- Whether the water has touched outlets, appliances or the electrical panel.
- Whether you rent or own, since that decides who the landlord or insurer is.
Before you call
If it is safe, stop the source of the water. Shutting the main water valve ends most pipe failures. If water is near electrical equipment, stay out of the room and call your utility or 911 first. Then call (818) 337-2642, and take photos of the damage before anything is moved.
After you call
The dispatcher confirms the address, repeats back what you described and tells you what to do while the crew is arranged. Same-day response is offered when crews are available, and you are told plainly what to expect rather than given a promised arrival time.
Once the crew has measured the damage, the scope of work and the price are explained before work starts. Ask questions at any point. If your question belongs with a plumber, an electrician or your insurer, you will be told so.
